The archaeological site of Ypsil is only a short distance away from the modern village of Batsi, in Aprovatou, a fortified settlement dating from the Geometric period to the beginning of the Classical era.

Brought to light in the early 1980s, the settlement was protected by a substantial fortification wall that was later repaired and reinforced. The layout was dense and it featured a sanctuary most likely dedicated to Demeter, which remained in use until the mid-5th century BC.

Excavations at the site have yielded a variety of portable finds that have provided valuable insights into Aegean civilization during the Geometric and Archaic periods.
