A building donated by the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation houses impressive finds from Palaiopolis, the ancient centre of Andros.
Among them, the marble sculptural group of Pegasus, the mythical winged horse, with Bellerophon (c. 500 BC) – probably originating from a temple in the ancient city – and an imposing life-size lion (320 BC), claim the visitor’s attention.
A plaque inscribed with 178 verses of a hymn to the oriental goddess Isis (1st century BC), also made of fine marble, is one of the most important exhibits in the collection.
