Aiani, GR Get Directions

The Archaeological Museum of Aiani, located in the modern settlement of the same name, houses all significant finds from the ancient city and the surrounding areas.

The objects featured in the galleries offer insight into the culture developed over the centuries in Upper Macedonia, tracing the societal structure of the Dorian-Macedonian tribes that inhabited the area.

As attested by numerous finds, Mycenaeans had settled in the region as early as the Late Bronze Age (15th – 12th centuries BC). Other exhibits discovered in the excavations of ancient Aiani – which also served as the capital of one of the most powerful kingdoms of Upper Macedonia – offer important information about its urban and political organization, as well as its historical development during the Archaic and Classical periods.
