The Archaeological Museum of Sifnos is located in the heart of the medieval Kastro, on the first floor of the traditional G. Maridakis residence.

It holds collections of sculptures, ceramics and coins from the Geometric to the Late Roman periods. The exhibits paint a vivid picture of life on the island, with particular emphasis on the impressive sculptural decoration of the ancient city. According to Herodotus, public buildings in Sifnos used to be adorned with works made of Parian marble.

The exploitation of the island’s gold and silver mines during the 6th and 5th centuries BC played a decisive role in its development, making Serifos one of the wealthiest islands in ancient Greece. The mines, the most important of which was located at Agios Sostis, produced precious metals that established the island’s reputation for prosperity.

Among the most remarkable finds, you will discover an anthemion-crowned funerary stele from the 4th century BC, a Sphinx head, fragments of altars and an Archaic capital, as well as a marble funerary stele and cinerary urns from the Hellenistic period.
