Archaeological Collection of Kozani: A mansion filled with ancient treasures

The well-preserved mansion, which reopened its doors to the public in 2016 after extensive renovations, plays host to finds from earlier excavations, along with discoveries from recent archaeological research. The exhibition is displayed across the two floors, featuring highlights such as the Palaeolithic hand axe from Palaiokastro, marble statues, votive and funerary stelae and a wide range of artefacts from the Early Neolithic period to Late Roman times.

The stone anthropomorphic stelae from Kryovrysi Kranidion are an especially notable discovery, as they represent some of the earliest known sculptures from the end of the Neolithic period. Part of the exhibition originates in extensive rescue excavations carried out in the PPC lignite mines at Kleitos and Mavropigi, as well as in the lakeside zone of the artificial Polyfytos Lake.
