Doliani: Α continuously inhabited Thesprotian settlement

The fortified settlement of Doliani, which in the ancient world was most likely known as Fanoti, is located on a hill encircled by the Kalamas River, the ancient Thyamis.

Until the 2000s, the area was covered in dense vegetation with little clue as to what lay beneath: a unique example of a continuously inhabited Thesprotian settlement, from the 6th century BC through to the Ottoman period.

The impressive arched gate of the fortification, built in the 4th century BC, along with the Muslim mosque with the arched openings that crowns the hill, reflects the long history of Doliani through the passage of time.
