“One battle, one city, one empire” – this is the central theme of the permanent exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Nicopolis.

Octavian’s victory at Actium in 31 BC led directly to the foundation of Nicopolis and decisively shaped the form and course of the Roman Empire.

The museum’s displays highlight the prominence and prosperity of both Roman and Christian Nicopolis. Visitors follow the city’s long historical trajectory – from the famous naval battle of Actium to the foundation, flourishing and eventual decline of the city.

The exhibits include statues, architectural reliefs, luxury artifacts, and a wide range of pottery, all reflecting aspects of public and private life in Nicopolis. Rich visual material also documents excavations, conservation, and the restoration of the city’s Roman and Christian monuments from the early 20th century to the present day.
