The Stavros Collection is located in the settlement of the same name and houses finds from northern Ithaca, dating from the Early Bronze Age to the Roman period.

The majority of the exhibits were discovered in Pilikata, an important settlement of the Early Helladic period. The fragments from the famous geometric tripod cauldrons found in the Cave of Polis are the main attraction, featuring elaborate decorations reminiscent of the Homeric Odyssey. A visit to the Collection promises to be an immersive experience thanks to the inventive presentation of these monumental votive offerings, their integration into the broader historical and archaeological context and direct link to the Homeric epic.

A fragment of a Hellenistic mask from the 2nd century BC bearing the incised inscription “Euchen Odyssei” (a prayer for Odysseus), is a testament to the hero’s cult. The Homeric hero, also depicted on the city’s coinage, forms an integral part of the identity of the Ithacans. This connection was especially emphasized during the Hellenistic period, when foundational myths, cults and traditions acquired special significance.
