The ruins of ancient Lerna are located 10 km from the settlement of Myloi, in Argolis.
If the name “Lerna” sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because it appears in mythology, in the account of Hercules’ fight against the Lernaean Hydra; a mythical monster with nine heads, Hydra symbolized the efforts of Lerna’s people to drain the polluted marshes located in their land (one version of the myth, included among the Twelve Labours of Heracles).
The most important monument of the settlement is the so-called “House of the Tiles”, which dates from the Early Helladic period.
