The Corinth Canal, the most important technical achievement in 19th century Greece, is located a short distance from ancient Isthmia, a pine-wooded area that flourished in antiquity due to its key location.
In the sanctuary of the Isthmian Poseidon, the region’s patron deity, you will find a small Archaeological Museum designed by Pavlos Mylonas, featuring finds unearthed during the excavations at the Sanctuary of Poseidon, from monuments in the wider area of Isthmia and from the ancient harbor of Kenchreai. The most important exhibits are the glass panels from the temple of Isis, an early example of stained glass.
