The Archaeological Museum of Chalkis is housed in a listed neoclassical building dating back to the early 20th century, designed by the architect Alexandros Lykakis.

The museum’s collection showcases monuments primarily from Chalkis and its surrounding areas, while also referencing the wider island of Euboea. Most of the exhibits come from archaeological excavations conducted by the Archaeological Service, with some acquired through private donations, most notably the bequest of the private collection of lawyer and politician Alexandros Oikonomou.

The exhibition, arranged chronologically across three ground-floor galleries, traces the history of Chalkis from the Middle Paleolithic period, around 100,000 years ago, to the Late Roman period, in the 4th century A.D. In the museum’s courtyard, stone artifacts from the historical periods are displayed, documenting the long and continuous history of Chalkis and Euboea.
