Almost every period of the island’s long history is represented in the rich collection of the Archaeological Museum of Nisyros.

The modern building the Museum is housed in was constructed through a donation by the Giannidis brothers and is located in the centre of the Mandraki settlement.

Most of the prehistoric exhibits come from the volcanic islet of Gyali, while the necropolis of the ancient town in Ai Giannis has yielded finds from the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods: unique grave goods, vases and figurines, clay larnakes, tombstones and inscriptions.

The Museum also displays finds from Late Antiquity and the Byzantine period, chiefly from the island’s Early Christian basilicas, as well as ceramic plates recovered from a 19th-century shipwreck discovered in the waters off Nisyros.

The site remains closed on the following dates and public holidays: January 1, March 25, May 1, Easter Sunday, December 25 & 26.

Admission is free on March 6, April 18, May 18, the last weekend of September, on October 28, as well as on the first and third Sunday of each month between November 1 and March 31.
