The Archaeological Museum of Tinos is located on the bustling street leading to the Church of Panagia Evangelistria, a traditional pilgrimage site.

Designed by the architect Charalambos Bouras, it houses finds from Chora, Exombourgo, Kardiani and the Sanctuary of Poseidon at Kionia, dating from the Mycenaean period to Roman times.

Among its most important exhibits are the large relief-decorated pithamphorae, dating from the 8th and 7th centuries BC – outstanding examples of local artistic production. These monumental storage jars are distinguished by their richly modelled scenes depicting humans, animals and mythical creatures, including centaurs. Most were discovered at Exombourgo, in the Sanctuary of Demeter and Kore, establishing the site as the principal production centre of this distinctive class of pottery, which was exported to other Cycladic islands, as well as to Attica, Boeotia and Euboea.

Visitors can take a break in a tranquil courtyard in the middle of the Museum, displaying mosaics, inscriptions and fragmented sea monsters.
