The Archaeological Museum of Pella is designed to be in continuous dialogue with the archaeological site that spreads out in front of it, elaborating on first impressions.
The first thing visitors encounter upon entrance is a roof tile marked “Pellis”, which identified the ruins unearthed in the excavation as the ancient Macedonian city of the same name, sparking international interest. As you advance inwards, the marble bust of Alexander the Great welcomes you to his birthplace, a rather modest introduction considering the explosion of treasures to follow.
Just above the ground floor, a balcony offers a panoramic view of the mosaic floors, as well as the reconstruction of a 5-meter wall with coloured plasterwork – all discovered in wealthy houses in Pella. The Museum is divided into five thematic sections, with the grave offerings holding a prominent spot.
