Kritinia Castle was erected in 1472 by Giorgio Orsini to protect the inhabitants of the area from Turkish fleet attacks.
The castle is located in the western part of the island of Rhodes, offering panoramic views of Halki and other small islands, such as Alimia, Makri and Stroggyli, dotting the Aegean Sea.
Inside the castle, ruins from the Catholic Church of Saint Paul are still in evidence, while visitors can seek out the coats of arms of the Grand Masters d’Amboise (1503–1512) and Carretto (1513–1521) on the two fortress towers.
