Housed in a listed building of the Ottoman School constructed in 1899, the Collection started taking shape at the end of the 19th century.
Today, mostly thanks to the efforts of the local residents who founded the Educational Association of Ierapetra, the collection features finds from ancient Ierapytna and the wider region dating from the 3rd millennium BC to the 5th century AD. Among wonderful terracotta larnakes, vases, inscriptions, sculptures and coins, the beautiful statue of the goddess Persephone or Kore with the peplos stands out, dating from the 2nd century AD.
