The Archaeological Museum of Agrinio, one of the oldest in the region, was indirectly endowed to Aetolia-Acarnania by the Papastratos brothers, who financed the construction of the building it is currently housed in.

The exhibition favors a chronological order, featuring finds from across Aetolia-Acarnania, from prehistoric times right through to the Roman period.

The Protogeometric and Geometric pottery vessels from Calydon, Pleuron and Trichonion are especially revealing in terms of local history, as well as Mycenaean finds from the tholos tombs of the Aitoliko area.

The marble sculptures from the Heroon of Calydon (including Meleager, Atalanta and other divine figures), the finely crafted funerary stele of Kritolaos (2nd century BC) and the architectural terracotta elements from the decorative programme of the Sanctuary of Laphria are certainly among the most notable exhibits of the Museum.
