Its main monument is the Byzantine Monastery of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary, founded in the late 11th or early 12th century.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"section ContentText TitleCenter  \">\n\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"rich-text\">\n\t\t<p>A short walk through the forest brings visitors to other sites of interest. On the Hill of the Taxiarches, about 400 meters west of the monastery, stand monuments spanning from the early Christian period to the Ottoman era: the remains of an early Christian basilica and a Byzantine church, the Frankish Church of Saint Mark, and the Church of the Taxiarches. The church (katholikon) and the bathhouse date back to its foundation, while the refectory, storerooms, and monks\u2019 cells are arranged at different levels around a serene courtyard. Particularly noteworthy is the Benizelos family Tower, built by the noble Athenian household that, in 1682, funded the frescoes decorating the narthex added to the
